Hello friends! So last Sunday I did my timed three mile run on my own in order to figure out what pace group I'm in. I ran it in 36 minutes which I was pretty disappointed about. I chalk it up to the fact that I hadn't run in almost a week. On Tuesday I went for a four mile run and I felt great! I wish I had done the timed run that day. Unfortunately, I haven't run since Tuesday and it will probably be awhile before I can run again- because it's POTTY TRAINING WEEKEND! Wooo-hooo! I'm taking the intensive cold turkey approach to potty training- no more diapers, period. I'm sure all of you with potty training experience are rolling your eyes right now, but that's the goal- we'll see. Because of the potty training though (which I'm oddly excited about, mostly because I think Nico will look adorable in his tiny superman boxer briefs) I won't really be able to leave the house. I'll probably be at the mercy of Katie and Cam to see if they would be willing to deal with Nico peeing all over the floor while I go for a quick run :) I'm assuming this potty training thing is going to take at least a week, and Nico is with me next weekend too (yay!), so I imagine I'll have to stay in a bit that weekend as well. Fingers crossed he his a champion potty training student!
I got a groupon awhile back for 15 yoga classes for $15- I know, a total steal. So I signed up for sessions through July, but I can only go when I don't have Nico, but that's okay. Does anyone have suggestions for cross-training I can do at home when I have Nico? I would also like to get into Pilates because I've heard amazing things, but I picked up a brochure from a studio and it was like $1200 for a pack of 20 sessions. Um, yeah, no. So if anyone knows any good beginners Pilates videos, that would be awesome.
I still need to get new running shoes- but just haven't seemed to have a moment (or the money) to do so. I really want to get on that because I my shoes are way to small and I don't want screw up my feet this early in the game (or ever in the game, really). Also, I've heard about peoples toe nails turning black and falling off from shoes that are too small and I just really think that would screw up my monthly pedi plans. But shoes probably aren't going to happen until the week after next. This weekend we're doing a four mile run, which will be no problem. Next week it's 5. The week I finally get to meet my group is a six miler- and I can't freaking wait! If anyone has any suggestions on food, gear, gels, etc- I am always open to suggestions, because frankly I have no clue what I'm doing. Or if anyone has potty-training advice, that would be cool too :)
I had a job interview yesterday! It was actually just a phone interview with a recruiter for law firms, but still! She emailed me and said she wants me to come into their office for an in person interview, which makes me think she may have a position she thinks I should apply for. So I have to find the time to do that, plus take this test she sent me. I don't like taking tests- especially when I have no idea what they are going to be testing me on. It will be fine though.
As always- don't forget to donate!!! Thanks for the support!

Pre-Training
Hi friends! Thank you so much for visiting my blog and hopefully donating at http://www.active.com/donate/MCM_T2DC2011/maighdlindc!
On Saturday I very hesitantly went to the introductory meeting for Team to End AIDS. I had already registered for the Virginia Beach Rock n' Roll Half Marathon, but I was SO nervous to go to the meeting. I kept thinking that I was really out of shape, everyone was going to look at me and judge me... blah, blah, blah, negative voices. With a little (lot) of encouragement from Katie I finally went. I couldn't have been more wrong- it was incredibly inspiring! So inspiring in fact, that I decided to switch to the full Marine Corps Marathon! This has special meaning to me because in addition to the money going to help the prevention of AIDS, my very dear friend Rob Bohn is in Afghanistan right now, and I feel like knowing he's out there fighting for our safety is really going to inspire me to keep on running!
I'll be honest- I've definitely questioned my judgement since switching to the marathon, but after going to the meeting I truly feel that ANYONE can do it (that means YOU! Join at www.t2ea.com and give my name as the reference). They also have runs in LA and Chicago, so you don't have to be in DC to do it! The most amazing thing I got away from the meeting was the camaraderie between all the 200ish people who were there, and their deep love for people and desire to help those affected by AIDS. It was a truly awesome experience.
Now to training...
I've been running a bit for the past couple months, but it's been rough with Nico being there half the time because I have to rely on Katie (shout out to my biggest helper!) to watch him and she's pretty busy these days. But surprise! My family all chipped in and got me a jogger stroller for Mother's Day! I'm still getting used to being honored for Mother's Day and I sure as hell wasn't expecting any presents- especially such an awesome one! Nico and I have been out on two "runs" in it this week and I'll be honest- it's slow going. Nico loves it, but I've found that holding my arms still to hold onto it is the hardest part. I feel like my arms are getting a bigger work out then my legs. One of the walk/runs was 5 miles, the other was 3. I got pretty frustrated because I wanted to be running for all 5 miles, but I'm trying to remind myself that I'm still getting used to the jogger. And we haven't even started official training yet.
Official training begins Saturday on the waterfront. It's a 3 mile timed run to figure out what pace group to put you in. I can't make the first three weeks of training because I have Nico those weekends, so I'll be doing the running those runs on my own. I'm afraid I'm going to run too hard on the three miler and then be with a pace group I can't keep up with. Hopefully I'll be able to hold back my competitive spirit just a little :)
Thanks for checking out my blog! And remember, my NEW donation page is http://www.active.com/donate/MCM_T2DC2011/maighdlindc. For those of you who have already donated (THANK YOU!) it may take a bit for your donations to be transferred from one fund to another, but don't worry- the money is still good! Thanks for the love and support! Happy Wednesday!
